2K Sports has announced Team 2K, a contest to find the very best players of NHL 2K9 and NBA 2K9 in the world.
The contest will run for ten weeks over both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Players must sign up and compete in ranked quick matches, fighting their way to the top of the leaderboard for each platform. At the end of every week, the player at the top of the heap will be added to the Team 2K roster, and the leaderboards will be reset to give other players a chance to claim their spot at the top. To ensure fairness, an ELO rating system will factor in opponent quality and the number of games a player has won, while the Team 2K website will feature a countdown timer and in-game screen to help players make sure they get their games in on time.
And the point of all this? Players who earn a spot on Team 2K will have the chance to become a playable character as part of Team 2K in the 2K10 versions of the game, and will also receive exclusive 2K Sports gear, a library of new games and recognition as one of the best gamers in the world. Fame and loot! What more could anyone ask for?
