The previous generation of consoles was a great one, they provided us with so many hours of enjoyment. So let’s celebrate the 8 best selling games for the Xbox 360, a great console that provided some great games.
The reason that Kinect Adventures is on this list is the same reason that Wii Sports is one of the best selling games of all time, it was bundled. So you purchasing a Kinect or an Xbox 360 with the Kinect made this the best selling Xbox 360 game with 24 million copies sold.
The Halo series is a staple of the Xbox, no wonder Halo 3 is on the list. This is one of the best Halo games and it helps that the online muliplayer is pretty spot on, after a few years at the FPS helm there’s a reason that Halo is regarded with such reverence and sold 14.5 million copies.
What’s a list without Minecraft? This time they earned their spot on the list with 13 million copies sold on the Xbox 360, making it the third best selling game ever for the beloved console. With all of their sales they’re going to be on almost every best selling list.
Finally we get a Call of Duty game on here with Call of Duty: Black Ops. One of the biggest selling points of this game, if not the main selling point was the Nazi zombies feature. Black Ops brought back the fascist zombies, and with it they sold 12 million copies. Not too bad for an indie game.
Next on the list is another Call of Duty game, this time around it’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This gem was more notable for its online multiplayer, they didn’t have the evil zombies to rely on, they had some seriously well made online fighting. Because of all this, and the success of previous Call of Duty games they racked in over 7.5 million copies sold for the Xbox 360.
Epic Games’ Gears of War was one of the best shooters to come out of the early 2000’s. It brought shooters to a whole new audience, an audience of people that hated bugs and just wanted them all dead. This all culminated in 5 million copies sold for the console, a nice round number that was most certainly earned.
It’s hard to mention Gears of War and not mention the very successful and aptly titled sequel Gears of War 2. This game racked up 5 million copies sold as well, so it’s a true sequel. It says quite a bit about the original when it performs as well as it’s sequel, which usually has better numbers because of the fact that it doesn’t have to break any new ground and can skid by on the original’s technology.
Halo is back on the list, this time with the 2010 game Halo: Reach. This prequel to the original brought back what everyone loved about the previous games, kick-ass online multiplayer and an interesting single-player storyline. With all of this going for it they sold 4.79 million copies, a good number for a good game.
