8 Cartoon Network Shows That You Should Watch

Today is the 22nd anniversary of the debut of Cartoon Network, so to celebrate we are giving you eight amazing television shows that the channel has introduced. So be prepared for a bit of nostalgia, along with some smiles.

Venture Bros. has to be one of the best shows on television today. This fantastic series started out in 2003, it has since become one of Cartoon Network’s best series. The show features the Venture family as they go through their wacky lives, it’s basically Johnny Quest if Johnny Quest had a very dysfunctional family.

The Regular Show debuted in 2010, and features Mordecai, a blue jay, and Rigby, a raccoon. These two twenty-somethings are inept groundskeepers at a park, and they are the source of a majority of the show’s shenanigans.

If you’re ever interested in a healthy dose of absurdity then look no further than Cartoon Network’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The show premiered on the network in 2001, and it’s built up quite a strong fan-base since then. The characters Frylock, Master Shake, and Meatwad are the worst neighbors and people in general.

To fill the cultural gap that The Ren & Stimpy Show left when it went off the air Cartoon Network introduced the equally surreal Cow and Chicken. This series featured the title characters Cow and Chicken, these weren’t any normal cow and chicken, they were siblings with human parents. If you even try to make any sense of this series your head may implode.

2006 saw the premier of one of the best Metal based cartoons ever with Metalocalypse. This show followed the ultra-heavy metal band Dethklok as they lived their day to day lives, sometimes mundane, sometimes pretty damned metal.

Cartoon Network’s The Power Girls had a good run from 1998 to 2005. Even after almost ten years since their last original show they’re still a major part of our society, mention The Powerpuff Girls to anyone and they’re sure to know exactly what you’re talking about. The three super-powered girls take to the streets to stop crime and face off against Mojo Jojo and a cast of evil baddies.

Tom Goes to the Mayor was Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim’s first show to hit Cartoon Network, they’ve since gone on to make the wildly popular Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!. Tom Goes to the Mayor had a relatively short run with only two seasons, but on those two seasons they had some seriously talented guest stars, from Bob Odenkirk to Patton Oswalt.

Everyone’s favorite cartoon Adventure Time premiered on the network in 2010, and has been going strong since then. It helps that the show is aimed at kids and adults alike, the themes can be applied to figuratively anyone. Another reason that the show has garnered so much respect is the fact that it shows that no one is truly good or bad, even someone that seems like they’re evil has a bit of good in their heart. This series is nothing but good messages to people of all ages.
