Exclusive are a fact of life in modern gaming. Some games are only on PS4, some are only on Xbox One, and sometimes you just can’t get a developer to make a PC version of your favorite console game. But with the announcement that Vanquish is coming to PC, we figured why not dream a little and pick out the 8 console exclusives we’d love to see make the jump to PC.
Horizon: Zero Dawn
One of the PS4’s most popular titles, Horizon: Zero Dawn combines a beautiful, post apocalyptic setting with a massive open world. You play as Aloy, a hunter who uses an array of weaponry to combat the giant, animal-like robots that populate the world. Guerrilla Games has been praised for this one, and rightly so. Just imagine how gorgeous the world would be on your new PC, though!
The Last of Us
Naughty Dog’s survival horror game earns its way onto this list by virtue of telling a great story. The interplay between Joel and Ellie is masterfully done, and watching how their relationship changes over the course of the game is half of the fun. It’s a zombie tale that forces you to consider how to approach each situation due to the lack of resources you constantly deal with. It’s a shame that no one outside the PlayStation universe will ever get to play it.
Metroid Prime
Yeah, I know. The odds of getting a Nintendo game on PC are somehwere between slim and none, but a guy can dream. The Metroid Prime Trilogy made it to the Wii, but never to the PC. Prime was the first game that was released with the serie’s new first-person gameplay, and yes, it was amazing. We’ve been holding out hope for a new Metroid game, but getting the Prime trilogy on PC would be a boon as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The latest entry into the long-running Legend of Zelda franchise is also one of the most critically acclaimed. With the game’s focus on an open-world and ranged combat (at times), it would be a perfect fit for PC as well. While we have seen some gamers get Breath of the Wild running in emulator, an official release would not only run better, but it would be less questionable from a legal standpoint. Just don’t get your hopes up for it ever happening.
Bloodborne
From Software has a dedicated following on the PC, so it should be no surprise to see Bloodborne here. Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, it puts its own spin on the formula we’ve come to expect from the Souls games. There are no shields, you’ll spend more time on the attack, and be forced to play much more aggressively. It’s unlikely that we’ll ever see it on PC, as Sony owns the publishing rights, but it’s nice to dream.
Silent Hill
The first Silent Hill may have made it to the PlayStation Network Store, but it never made it to PC. The other games in the series have either released on PC or been ported over later, but not the first one. It’s a shame, because the first Silent Hill is one of the best games in the series. Its open world feels tight and constricting thanks to its ever-present fog, and it holds some of the scariest moments in gaming (like that elementary school).
Uncharted 4
Nathan Drake’s latest adventure is the culmination of a series that’s earned pretty much every accolade you can think of. It’s Indiana Jones for the world of video games, combining action and cover shooting with 3D platforming. While Uncharted 4 is the latest game, I wouldn’t look askance at Naughty Dog if it went for a single release including all four games. It’s highly unlikely, but it would definitely be awesome.
Red Dead Redemption
If there’s a single game that PC players want more than any other, it’s probably Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar’s Old West adventure told the tale of reformed outlaw John Marston and how the government wouldn’t let him go straight. Its rendering of the towns and open spaces is excellent, and you can’t help but enjoy the time you spend on horseback there. Hopefully, we’ll get a PC release when Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, but as of right now, there’s no word on a PC version of that game, either.
