Everyone knows about all of the horrible movie adaptations of video games, there are really too many to count. As soon as another video game based movie gets announced it’s just assumed that the movie is going to suck. Here we give you eight games that would make for eight great movies. Tell us in the comments which other video games would make for a good movie.
The protagonist wakes up on a deserted island with no memory of their past. This could be how the Minecraft movie could start, then add the evil mobs and you’ve got yourself a survival horror movie. If you doubt that it could be a horror game you really haven’t played Minecraft.
I know what you’re going to say, “Battlefront is already based on a movie!” and I couldn’t disagree with you. But now imagine that we got a Star Wars film that didn’t follow the fancy Jedi around everywhere, a film that is more like Saving Private Ryan but with Storm Troopers.
Skyrim, or really any Elder Scrolls game, would make for quite the film. You could have a series of movies that all lead up to you encountering Alduin in Sovngarde. The smaller quests would fill time throughout the series. Imagine the Lord of the Rings series but better and longer, and with a more definitive ending.
The Legend of Zelda has been ready for film adaptation for years. Who wouldn’t love a story of a young man fighting his way through dungeons and countless enemies? On the upside if that got too boring then you just have Link running into stores and demolishing everything they have in there.
Apocalyptic movies do quite well, now add that with an established fan base and you’ve got a blockbuster. Fallout 3 has everything that you would want in a movie, ghouls roaming the wasteland and roving bands of marauders. Now add in the companions that you can have and you’ve got a buddy movie with you and Fawkes ridding the world of evil … and undrinkable water.
With the success of Guardians of the Galaxy it proves that we’re ready for a movie with a furry protagonist. Star Fox is ripe for film, with the foxy protagonist and his motley crew flying through space you’ve got the sci-fi film of the summer.
Gears of War may already be a video game version of Starship Troopers, but it would be nice to see another take on the genre of space marine. A dark gritty film about the cost of war and the men doing the killing. It won’t be a happy film but it promises more action than you can fathom.
Speaking of Starship Troopers we have the classic game series Halo, which would make for a very entertaining experience for everyone. Just imagine the ring shaped space station Halo on the huge screen, a whole new world to experience through the eyes of the man with no name, Master Chief.
