2017 is fast approaching and so far, looks to be a stellar year for video games. As we depart 2016, we look forward and take a look at upcoming titles we’re looking forward to playing.
Here’s our top 8 games we can’t wait for.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda series is always a fan favorite and thankfully, Nintendo is coming up with a new game to add to the ongoing series. This time, Link wakes up from a deep sleep to find out that a century earlier, a Calamity Ganon appeared and laid waste to Hyrule. As it couldn’t be defeated, it was sealed in Hyrule Castle and pretty much forgotten about. Over the years it accumulated power and like any ancient evil, it’s up to our Hero to put and end to it before it unleashes its full strength on the world.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Set 4 years after Resident Evil 6, players take on the role of Ethan Winters, a civilian with limited combat abilities searching for his wife, Mia. This search takes him to an old mansion owned by the Baker family. One interesting aspect of this new title in the Resident Evil franchise is that this one will be VR capable. So, be careful if you play this way. Given it’s a horror game and Japans sense of humor, you’ll definitely need someone there to make sure you don’t injure yourself while playing.
Horizon Zero Dawn
While most post-apocalyptic games explore a wasteland ravaged by radiation and rubble, Horizon Zero Dawn takes a different approach. Players take on the role of Aloy, a hunter who lives off of the land just to survive. She must avoid mechanical monstrosities simply referred to as “machines” as she learns about the world around her and works on the main storyline.
Prey (2017)
Aliens have taken control of the space station a human by the name of Morgan Yu is living on. Players will take control over this character and find ways and use weapons to liberate the station from the alien incursion. One special ability that was announced will be a way to take control over the aliens’ variety of powers, including the ability to imitate common items such as a chair.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole
Many out there may not want to admit it, but you enjoyed South Parks RPG – South Park: The Stick of Truth. Even if you weren’t a fan of the show, the game itself was quite fun, and funny! It takes place shortly after the first one left off. The town was in shambles after the fighting and the kid’s attention spans have focused on a new adventure. If it’s anything like the first one, I’m going to lose quite a few hours of sleep playing it.
Dawn of War III
Fans of Warhammer 40k series rejoiced at the news when Dawn of War III was announced. Dawn of War II was arguably one of the best RTS games created (my personal favorite) and when THQ shuttered, the dreams of seeing a third in the game series was looking grim. Luckily, Sega bought the rights to the Warhammer IP allowing a fan favorite to finally become a trilogy.
Mass Effect: Andromeda
Andromeda is the first of the Mass Effect games that do not feature Commander Shepard as the protagonist. The game takes place roughly 600 years after the end of Mass Effect III and the player takes the role of a child of Alec Ryder – an N7 Pathfinder. Andromeda will give be in an open world setting allowing players to fly around the galaxy in a starship named Tempest.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption became an incredible success on the console market (still waiting for that PC port, Rockstar!) and while nothing is really known about the sequel just yet, if it’s anywhere near as much fun as the first one was, fans are going to be very happy. It should be mentioned that the GTA series seemed to get better and better as the sequels rolled out, so here’s hoping for the same with this one!
