2017 has been a great year for games so far. We’ve seen Resident Evil 7, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Torment: Tides of Numenara, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, just to name a few. But as good as the year has been so far, it’s far from over. There are still plenty of games worth looking forward to this year, and we’ve picked out eight of our favorites for today’s gallery.

Prey
Prey‘s release is only a few days away, but it’s the first game on our list today. Filling the shoes of protagonist Morgan Yu, you’ll explore the Talos I space station, where scientists are researching the Typhon aliens. You’ll be able to access an array of powers, including alien abilities like mimicing items in the station. Arkane Studios is releasing Prey this Friday, May 5.
Injustice 2
The next installment of NetherRealm’s superhero fighting game is due out next week. It will be largely similar to the first game in the series, but this time around you’ll be able to collect costumes and gear to dress up and improve your characters. You’ll still be able to play as The Joker, and we’ve already seen the entire achievement list for the game (there may be spoilers in there). Injustice 2 is set to launch on May 11.
Red Dead Redemption 2
We haven’t seen much from the sequel to Rockstar’s beloved Wild West adventure, Red Dead Redemption. The game was officially announced in October of last year, but all we’ve seen so far has been a brief teaser that seemed to suggest that the game will focus on the events preceding the first game. Hopefully, we’ll get more information about the game at E3 next month. There’s no official release date set, but Rockstar has said that we can expect the game in the Fall of 2017.
Star Wars Battlefront II
The sequel to 2015’s underwhelming Star Wars Battlefront is apparently trying to inlcude some of the most requested features from the folks who were unhappy with the first game. A single-player campaign is included, with a story penned by Walt Williams, the man behind the critically acclaimed Spec Ops: The Line. Split-screen co-op is also planned, but only for the console version of the game. We’re sure to get more details of the game at E3. Star Wars Battlefront II is releasing November 17 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole
The oft-delayed South Park: The Fractured But Whole was originally slated to launch in December of 2016 before being pushed back to early this year. It was soon delayed again, pushing it back into Ubisoft’s 2017-18 fiscal year. While it’s likely to be out sometime in 2017, it could end up in early 2018. The role-playing game puts you back into the role of the New Kid, as the South Park kids are playing superheroes caught up in the midst of a civil war. Hopefully, we’ll get a specific release date at E3 this year.
Quake Champions
id Software is bringing Quake back to life, and this time around it’s free-to-play. For now, Quake Champions is only coming to PC, and series co-creator Tim Willits said, “It’s a PC game. No excuses. No limitations. We’re going to focus on one platform.” You’ll start the game with access to one character, Ranger, and you’ll have to unlock other characters with in-game currency earned from playing. You’ll also have the option to unlock all the game’s content for one price. Quake Champions will feature the frenetic gameplay you’d expect from Quake when it launches, but we don’t know just when that will be yet, but it should be this year.
Agents of Mayhem
If you haven’t heard of Agents of Mayhem yet, you should know that it’s the new open world title from Saints Row developer Volition. In fact, it’s a spin-off of the Saints Row game. You’ll be able to choose from 12 different agents, each with their own unique play style, to make up your team of three. Once you have a team, you’ll fight your way through the game’s campaign, gaining experience, cash, skills, new gadgets and mods, and more. It was initially shown off at E3 last year, and is scheduled to release on August 15 of this year.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War
The announcement of Middle Earth: Shadow of War was probably the biggest news to come out in February. The sequel to Shadow of Mordor immediately caught the interest of gamers, first with a cinematic trailer, and then with actual gameplay footage. The new game looks to expand on the much-praised Nemesis System, using it to bring to life Mordor and its denizens, which Talion must best using his ties to the wraith Celebrimbor and a newly-forged Ring of Power. You’ll be able to storm the gates of Mordor when Middle Earth: Shadow of War launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 22.
