We have seen quite a few games get delayed til the next year recently. We may not like it, but hopefully that means that they’ll be worth the wait because of the extra time. So here are eight video games that were originally slated for a 2014 release, but won’t see the light of day til 2015.
Everyone is looking forward to The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red’s follow up to the smash-hit The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, but unfortunately, everyone is going to have to wait until 2015. It was originally slated for release in Autumn 2014, but that got pushed back to February 2015. Don’t worry, this will release, just not when we want it to.
Battlefield Hardline puts you in the role as a member of a SWAT Team, or a criminal. If everything had gone to plan you would be shooting everything that moves by October 2014, but it was delayed to March 2015. Hopefully they’ll use this time to avoid the multiplayer issues that plagued the last Battlefield game.
Quantum Break is a third-person shooter that allows you to slow down time. Unfortunately it doesn’t allow you to get this game in 2014, because its release has been pushed back to 2015. Why? They won’t tell us, but we assume that it’s because they need to take the graphics down a notch, because apparently we all love great graphics when games are shown at E3, but in reality we just want the same thing over and over again, <cough>Watch_Dogs<cough>.
The Order: 1886 takes you back to an alternate history of London where you have to fight half-breed monsters. You would have been defeating these creatures in 2014 had the publisher not pushed back its release to 2015. Here’s hoping they use this time to focus on the monsters, we want them mean and well rendered.
Dying Light may have started as a sequel to Dead Island but it’s since become its own game. This game was originally planned for a 2014 release but because of the developer’s “desire to innovate” they pushed back the release to 2015. Let’s all hope this “innovation” they speak of results in an even better game than we would have seen if it had been released this year.
The upcoming Mad Max is one of the most anticipated games of 2014. Unfortunately, it’s no longer a 2014 game, as it has been pushed back to next year. The delay may have been because when it was previewed Max had an American accent, which isn’t really true to the character, so the developers promised that Max would indeed be an Australian. Rerecording all of the protagonists lines might have put a wrench into the release plans.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is going to be a third person shooter MMO, so it’s going to take some time to get everything right. The reason that this game was delayed to 2015 is because the engine for the game – the Snowdrop engine – wasn’t exactly done. The developer said that it was on its way. It also helps that because of the engine’s status, the development of the game didn’t start on time. This is as good an excuse as we are going to get. At least they’re taking the time to fully develop the game.
The final chapter in Batman’s Arkham series, Batman: Arkham Knight, looks to plan on tying up all of the loose ends for Batman. This game promises to deliver more enemies for your pummeling pleasure, allowing up to 50 baddies on screen at a time. Now all of this comes with a bit of bad news, the game is slated for a 2015 release rather than the 2014 one that was initially put out there. But for Batman, we’ll wait.
