The 65th Emmy Awards ceremony was held August 25th, so today we are honoring some of the winners. Some of your favorites may not have won, but we give you eight that deserved to win and won. So prepare to be mad that Game of Thrones didn’t win anything.
Breaking Bad won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. They won the award for the last season of the series, as good a time as any to win an award. The series ran for five seasons, and it didn’t have any filler episodes, which is more than we can say for most series around today.
Everyone’s favorite Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch, won the award for Outstanding Actor in a Miniseries. This rising star has taken Hollywood by storm, besides Sherlock he’s also starred in the latest Star Trek movie, and the voice of Smaug in The Hobbit series. Don’t expect this man to stop, he’s got quite a few good years ahead of him.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the HBO comedy Veep. She isn’t new to the Emmy, this is her fifth Emmy. She’s previously won for her role in Seinfeld, and for her show The New Adventures of Old Christine. She’s come a long way from being a cast member on Saturday Night Live.
The ABC television show Modern Family won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. This really didn’t come as a surprise to anyone, they’ve won this award every years since 2010. It helps that they have a cast that makes this show one of the funniest to hit the air in years.
Bryan Cranston won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad. This is his fourth Emmy for playing the meth making Walter White. Before this role he was known for playing the father, Hal, in Malcolm in the Middle.
Aaron Paul won his third Emmy for playing Walter White’s cohort Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad. This isn’t his first rodeo, he’s been in the business since 1998. His career before Breaking Bad was primarily made up of small parts in television shows and movies. From this point forward don’t expect him to be playing many small parts.
Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t the only cast member of Sherlock to win an Emmy, Martin Freeman also got his hands on an award. Sherlock’s Watson won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries. Since his role as Tim in The Office he’s only gotten bigger, he’s only getting more marketable.
The miniseries Fargo won the Emmy for Outstanding Miniseries. It was up against some serious competition with American Horror Story: Coven and Luther. With a win over such stiff competition they have proven that a miniseries based on a movie can work wonders.
