With the recent sale of Marvelman #26, which went for a very tidy sum, we decided to look back at some of the most valuable comics in the history of comics. You’ll recognize most of the characters presented, and there will be some that you may not be so accustomed to.
Coming in at number eight on the list is Amazing Fantasy #15. This comic is valued at $442,000.00, the reason the comic is worth so much is because it is the first appearance of the beloved Spider-Man. This web-slinging hero has gone on to have several series dedicated to him, so take a look back at where he came from.
All-American Comics #16 is valued at $497,000.00, it helps that it is the first appearance of the Green Lantern. Since his inception he’s gone on to star in his own comic series, which has lasted longer than you can imagine, and a movie that maybe shouldn’t have been made.
This comic, Detective Comics #1, is valuable mainly because it is the first issue of the prolific brand. The value of the first issue is $529,000.00, even though the price on the cover is considerably less. The series would become more popular as they introduced a powerful cadre of heroes.
Batman #1 isn’t the first appearance of the masked vigilante, that’ll be later in the list, this is just the first issue of his own comic. The value of this comic is set at $530,000.00, so just put that house and car on the back burner and get your hands on one of these pieces of history.
Much like Detective Comics #1, this comic’s value has more to do with what it represents. Marvel Comics #1 is worth a whopping $578,000.00, which to be fair is a reasonable price if you’re a real Marvel fan. Although for that price you should get Stan Lee following you around declaring “EXCELSIOR!” every time you do anything.
Finally we get to the Man of Steel. He makes his first appearance on this list at number three with the premier of his own comic series. This isn’t his introduction, just his first comic all to himself. This comic would set you back quite a bit of money at $712,000.000, this is truly a must have for anyone that considers themselves to be a Superman fan.
Batman’s very first appearance was in Detective Comics #27, which makes sense when you realize that the comic is worth a staggering $2.2 million dollars. I don’t know about you but this is totally worth it, I suggest going down to a bank and requesting a loan to purchase this book. If they understand what this means they should give you the money with a low interest rate.
Although this isn’t Superman’s first appearance on this list, it is his first appearance in comic books. This caped crusader, and part-time bird and plane impersonator, made is debut in Action Comics #1. The comic isn’t cheap, as a matter of fact I think that we could all agree that this is the polar opposite of cheap, at a value of $2.97 million dollars. Quite a price considering it originally cost ten cents.
