Dawn of Justice‘s Aquaman Revealed

Jason Momoa’s version of Aquaman from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was revealed today via Twitter.

While we feel safe saying that enthusiasm for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice isn’t quite as high as DC Comics and Warner Bros would probably like it to be, there’s no lack for people who are eying the film with a healthy dose of curiosity. And while much of the movie is still understandably under wraps, director Zack Snyder has periodically been kind enough to let out a few snippets revealing how certain characters will be realized in his growing superhero universe. The latest addition to that list? Jason Momoa’s version of Aquaman.

Revealed by Snyder in a Tweet earlier today, Momoa’s Aquaman will be long haired and bearded with minimal armor and a lot of tattoos. The new look also comes equipped with the character’s trademark trident which, according to canon and Snyder himself, is powerful enough to cut even Superman’s skin. Along with revealing the new Aquaman, the poster in Snyder’s Tweet includes the words “Unite the Seven.” The meaning this could vary depending on whether they’re attached to Dawn of Justice itself, or if they’re just meant for Aquaman. If they’re a tagline for the movie it could mean uniting the Justice League. If they’re exclusive to Aquaman however, we’re probably talking the seven seas.

Just reacting to this image personally, I’m going to say that I don’t hate it. Granted, the dull, washed-out color palette is the same one that’s already elicited groans from DC fans on several occasions. Moreover, when you really get down to it, this isn’t too far off from how Momoa looked during his famous performance as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. That said, it’s still not bad, and it certainly doesn’t look like a character that mainstream audiences will make fun of, something that constantly happens to Aquaman for some reason. Heck, if anything, this take on the character could finally reverse the never-ending stream of undeserved ridicule he receives. What do you think? Is Momoa’s version a keeper, or should Snyder and company throw it back into the water?
