Sony has more than 25 games in development for PlayStation 5 – and almost half of those PS5 games are based on new IP. PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst revealed this in discussion with Wired as he elaborated on plans for Sony’s new console, now that it has been in the hands of players for around six months. He says that PlayStation 5 owners can expect a wide range of exclusive games to play.
“There’s an incredible amount of variety originating from different regions,” Hulst said. “Big, small, different genres.”
We have already been made aware of about a handful of these games – Sony Santa Monica’s next God of War project, Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West, and Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 7, to name a few. PlayStation has also told fans to expect games from Firewalk Studios and Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios. The games we don’t know about, however, could be years away for all we know. But the news should still be exciting for those who have been hoping for more new Sony games and IP to play on their PS5.
PlayStation 5 owners most recently got their hands on Returnal, with Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart set to arrive next month. We’re still waiting for any update at all, really, when it comes to the God of War sequel, though we can still hope to play Horizon Forbidden West later this year.
