A whopping four games from the Trails franchise are coming to Western audiences in the next few years. Developer Nihon Falcom and publisher NIS America announced the quartet of releases — The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure, The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie — during a special live anniversary concert event yesterday. All four titles are coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4, leaving out any mention of Xbox versions.
Trails from Zero will come to the West in the fall of 2022, 12 years after it originally released in Japan. Trails to Azure, Boundless Trails, and Trails into Reverie — which originally launched in 2011, 2012, and 2020, respectively — are all planned to see their Western release sometime in 2023. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV, another recent entry in the Trails series, was released in 2018 and came to Western players late last year. The Escapist’s George Yang enjoyed the game at the time, and despite a somewhat disappointing second act, he called it “a viable option for those itching to play an epic, immersive JRPG.” The availability of the franchise in the West will grow substantially starting next year with Trails from Zero.
