Ready for three of today’s biggest action stars to go toe to toe in a movie that looks about as generic as store-brand white bread? Then the Netflix trailer for Red Notice is here for you. The new film features Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds teaming up to take down a master art thief played by Gal Gadot, and Netflix just dropped the official Red Notice trailer, delivering our best look yet at what the film is about.
Reynolds plays the second best art thief in the world, Nolan Booth, who is blackmailed into helping the FBI’s top profiler, John Hartley (Dwayne Johnson), capture the number one art thief in the world, The Bishop (Gadot). Hartley himself has been framed by The Bishop, and so he must choose to lower himself to working with a criminal in order to clear his name. Judging from the trailer, Red Notice looks to ride on the charm of its stars and big action pieces over anything too creative plot-wise, though a movie involving this many thieves will have some twists and turns for sure.
Ritu Arya and Chris Diamantopoulos also will star in the film, which is directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber. Thurber is a long-time collaborator with Johnson, having directed both Central Intelligence and Skyscraper. Neither of those films are classics of any sort, but he does know how to piece together an action sequence when needed. So Red Notice may be able to lift itself above expectations given the cast at the amount of money that was dumped into it. The movie is rumored to have a budget of upwards of $200 million, making it Netflix’s most expensive film to date.
Red Notice, which is the name for an Interpol-issued global alert to hunt and capture the world’s most wanted, will drop on Netflix on November 12, 2021.
