Space Force Season 2 Trailer Reminds Us Space Force Still Exists

When Space Force was first announced at Netflix, many saw it as the streamer’s attempt to replace The Office, which was leaving for Peacock, as it featured Steve Carell as a bumbling boss in a workplace comedy. Although, this time the workplace was the military, and he wasn’t a boss but a general. The show turned out to be something a bit different and didn’t really stick all that hard with anyone, but it passed enough muster to get through the Netflix cancellation algorithm and now we have Space Force season 2, which just landed its first trailer for its February release date.

As the trailer reflects, Space Force season 2 sees a new administration coming in and questioning the worthiness of the Space Force. So General Naird (Steve Carell) and the rest of his motley crew must work to prove that they are worth keeping around. From the trailer, it looks like season 2 will continue on the same kind of humor and heart that the first season had, while bringing a few of the background players more into the spotlight. The series can be funny, for sure, but it definitely didn’t pull in any kind of cultural clout with its first season.

Returning for the second season alongside Carell are John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Jimmy O. Yang and Don Lake, Lisa Kudrow, and Patton Oswalt. The second season, which is really more like the second part of season one, will be seven episodes long with each episode running around 30 minutes.

The question is if this second season can engender any more fans in order to justify the show’s continued existence to Netflix. The streamer is notorious for its harsh cancellation policies that are based on cost versus views, and it just didn’t feel like Space Force ever got the traction it needed to have a long run.

Space Force season 2 will drop on Netflix on February 18.
