Ryan Reynolds is great. There’s not much arguing that point, so let’s all enjoy first-look images at the upcoming Ryan Reynolds Netflix film, The Adam Project. In this film, Reynolds is a man who travels back in time in order to save the world with the help of his much younger self. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, re-teaming him with Reynolds after the surprisingly enjoyable Free Guy.
The new The Adam Project first-look images don’t show off all that much sci-fi world-saving, instead focusing on the characters. We see Reynolds, playing Adam Reed, with his childhood self (Walker Scobell), who discovers him in his garage. Adam has traveled back during the infancy of time travel to find his father (Mark Ruffalo), who has recently died in childhood Adam’s time. Yeah, it looks like it’s going to get confusing, and of course, young Adam and old Adam don’t exactly get along. The emphasis here seems to be more character-driven than big action.
“In The Adam Project, Ryan and I aimed to combine a heightened time travel premise with grounded and relatable characters and themes,” said Levy. “We talk a lot about wish fulfillment being so critical to the movies we love and to the movies we want to make.”
Also starring in the film are Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener, and Zoe Saldaña. The movie sat in development hell for a long while, even with Tom Cruise attached, until Netflix scooped it up in 2020 and got the ball rolling. Now they’ve set it for a release date for The Adam Project of March 11, 2022.
