Time to wander into another town, kick some more ass, and solve some more problems all while being really jacked. Amazon has announced that Reacher, its TV series adaptation of the Jack Reacher novels by Lee Child, has been renewed for season 2. The first season of the show debuted on February 4 and shot straight up the charts for Amazon as people tuned in to watch Alan Ritchson — a human wall of muscle — play the incredibly popular character.
The Reacher season 2 renewal actually comes relatively late for the world of streamers where second seasons are often announced months before the first season even drops, and season 2 is often just a second part of season 1. However, Amazon seemed to be pacing itself here to make sure the show was a success. The first season basically told the story of the first Lee Child novel, Killing Floor, as Reacher works to clear his name and discovers a conspiracy in the small town he’s arrested in.
“The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series,” said Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke in a provided statement. “The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”
While not confirmed, we can probably assume that Ritchson will be returning as Reacher. Depending on what book they jump into next, the rest of the cast could be entirely different. If Amazon decides to go through the books by release order, the next one up is Die Trying, where Reacher and a young woman are kidnapped and taken to a remote location without any knowledge of why.
“Partnering with Amazon Studios for season one of Reacher was a total delight – they had our backs every step of the way, and it really shows, in every line and every frame,” said Child. “So I’m thrilled we’ll be working together again, for season two. This is very exciting news, and I can’t wait to get started. Reacher couldn’t be in better hands.”
Reacher season 2 has no release date yet.
