Stranger Things Spin-Off Stories Are Seemingly in the Works

Stranger Things spin-off stories Netflix

Today Netflix and the Duffer Brothers finally announced when we’ll be getting Stranger Things 4, and it’s coming in two parts. The split premiere dates were a bit of a surprise, as was the confirmation that season 5 would be the final season. However, the biggest surprise came at the end of a letter written by the Duffer Brothers that hinted that we’ll be getting spin-off Stranger Things content in the future.

“There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things(:) new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. But first we hope you stay with us as we finish this tale of a powerful girl named Eleven and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a ferocious mom, of a small town called Hawkins and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside Down,” the letter concluded.

That’s a pretty strong hint that the brothers and Netflix are planning Stranger Things spin-off content. Netflix has hinted in the past at possible spin-offs, but nothing has ever been confirmed. Rumors have swirled of a potential Millie Bobby Brown spin-off show with her character Eleven. Last September Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos said that the series was “a franchise being born,” and given the phenomenal success of the show throughout all its seasons, it’s hard to imagine Netflix walking away from it, especially if the Duffer Brothers are on board for more.

There is, of course, the video game Stranger Things 3: The Game too. That could be another avenue the franchise expands more fully into, though the game itself was more a retro throwback to video games of yesteryear than a full-blown canonical story. There have also been comic books series and a book series that have expanded the world and characters’ backstories, but the Duffers seem to be hinting at larger Stranger Things spin-off stories.
