Warner Bros. has just shifted a bunch of release dates for various movies, most of which are DC Comics movies. Shazam! Fury of the Gods (or Shazam 2, if you like SEO-friendly names like we do) has seen its release date moved forward to December 16, 2022. That is six months earlier than the old June 2, 2023 date. Meanwhile, DC League of Super-Pets, The Flash, Aquaman 2, Black Adam, and Wonka have all been delayed. Also, Meg 2: The Trench got a release date.
Here are all of the new release dates for these DC movies and other WB movies:
- DC League of Super-Pets moves from May 20, 2022 to July 29, 2022.
- Black Adam moves from July 29, 2022 to October 21, 2022.
- The Flash moves from November 4, 2022 to June 23, 2023.
- Aquaman moves from December 16, 2022 to March 17, 2023.
- Wonka moves from March 17, 2023 to December 15, 2023.
- Meg 2: The Trench has been set for August 4, 2023.
Shazam 2 director David Sandberg joked about the release date change on Twitter, lamenting tongue in cheek how James Cameron’s Avatar 2 will be demolished by his superhero comedy. Considering how little cultural footprint the original Avatar has left, that’s not an entirely impossible scenario.
It's funny how Shazam 1 was a Christmas movie released in April and Shazam 2 is a summer movie getting released at Christmas. It's the Shazam way.

DC Films seems to be on the upswing in the past year. The Suicide Squad was a critical (if not commercial) success, begetting the well-received Peacemaker. The Batman is currently dominating the box office (and our movie column and opinion pieces). And DC League of Super-Pets just looks plain cute. Shazam 2 could be an excellent way to end this year, after Super-Pets and Black Adam have had their fun.
