Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon will finally arrive on HBO and HBO Max with a release date of August 21, 2022. Social media for the show shared the news, along with a series of character images that highlight a new cast of cutthroat characters to get to know. Those characters include a family of Targaryens: King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). House of the Dragon will also introduce Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) in a story that takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon has been in the works since it was sent straight to series in late 2019. The spinoff show will receive 10 episodes that explore an earlier look at the Targaryen family.
There are only a few months to go before fans can finally return to Westeros after Game of Thrones gave them the finale they never wanted in 2019. House of the Dragon could restore faith in the franchise after a disappointing conclusion, but that remains to be seen. You can get a better taste of the next war for the Iron Throne in the teaser trailer released last October.
