Nickelodeon, publisher Outright Games, and developer Tessera Games have announced the video game Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Outright Games says this is the first Star Trek game to specifically target a younger audience, which makes sense since Prodigy is a TV series that also targets a younger audience. However, no further details have been revealed about the game yet, except that it is “coming soon.”
Although, we can basically fill in the dots of what to expect. Outright Games has an MO of pumping out family-friendly licensed games that are better than shovelware but aren’t going to win any awards. Its recent and upcoming releases include Fast & Furious Spy Racers: Rise of SH1FT3R, My Friend Peppa Pig, DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace, and The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem. If I were to hazard a guess, Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova will likely be a co-op adventure game with maybe some starship battles tossed in.
Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova isn’t the only new game in the franchise in development right now though. Star Trek: Resurgence is also coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC as a narrative adventure. Meanwhile, a new movie is in development (which its own cast didn’t know about), and Star Trek: Picard season 2 is currently airing, with season 3 to bring back the major cast of The Next Generation.
