On the Eastern Seaboard, it’s currently past midnight, yet Netflix has just now decided to drop the Cobra Kai season 5 release date trailer, pegging down a launch of September 9, 2022. As Netflix itself notes, this breaks the “tradition” of waiting till around New Year’s Day to launch a new season of the show, which is news that series fans will not mind at all. This reveal corresponds with an in-person promotional event in California.
The Cobra Kai season 5 release date trailer shows Terry Silver’s brand of Cobra Kai expanding in full force across the Valley. In real life, the success of a chain of karate dojos would be no big deal, but on this show, it is symbolic of the potential for moral destruction and must of course be stopped at all costs. Fortunately, Daniel LaRusso has teamed up with former nemesis Chozen to teach a more complete and potent version of Miyagi-do. Meanwhile, Johnny Lawrence is finally having a father-son bonding experience with Robby Keene — except it’s happening in Mexico, so that Johnny can retrieve his surrogate son, Miguel.
All of this is exactly the kind of delightful melodrama that Cobra Kai fans love, so the season 5 release date trailer is really everything we could have asked for. There’s no sign of The Karate Kid Part III villain Mike Barnes yet, but… give it a time.
In related news, Netflix earlier this week released a sizzle reel for upcoming animated projects, which included a first glimpse at the new Sega series Sonic Prime. Netflix will also soon premiere a new series with Adam Conover called The G Word, where he delves into the truth about how the government works.
