Lucasfilm has revealed the teaser trailer for Willow, a series that serves as a sequel to the 1988 fantasy movie of the same name, and it has a November 30, 2022 premiere date on Disney+. Per Variety, Jonathan Kasdan developed the series and wrote the first episode, and he is also showrunner alongside Wendy Maricle. Meanwhile, Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu directed the pilot episode and is an executive producer.
Warwick Davis returns as Willow himself, and it also stars Ruby Cruz (Mare of Easttown), Erin Kellyman (The Falcon and Winter Soldier), Ellie Bamber (The Serpent), Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Amar Chadha Patel (The Third Day) and Dempsey Bryk (The Birch).
The story for the Willow Disney+ series involves new and old characters going on a journey to apparently restore balance to the world. A woman named Kit appears to tell Willow that the world needs his magic again, and Willow says they will have to take a journey “into the unknown.” It all sounds very traditional, but for a project like this, traditional is good. The Willow Disney+ teaser trailer is fun enough even for people who aren’t intimately familiar with the movie.
The Willow teaser trailer arrives as part of Star Wars Celebration, and it is the first non-Star Wars property that Lucasfilm has developed since the Disney acquisition. However, plenty of major Star Wars announcements arrived today, including the Andor teaser trailer, The Mandalorian season 3 release date info, and the announcement of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
