At the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration Broadcast this evening, Square Enix finally shared the announcement trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (Remake Part 2), currently confirmed for PlayStation 5 and arriving “next winter.” It retains the beautiful graphics we have come to expect, while showing off new locales that venture beyond Midgar. It has Cloud and other characters questioning who is actually alive or dead, which makes sense if you played both the original game and Remake. It also has Cloud and Sephiroth doing some adventuring together in a flashback.

Final Fantasy VII Remake launched for PlayStation 4 in 2020 to universal acclaim, reimagining the opening Midgar segment of Final Fantasy VII in breathtaking new detail. An upgraded version that included Yuffie DLC, called Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, launched for PlayStation 5 and later for PC in 2021. Despite the short wait between releases, fans had been antsy to see Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, since there is so much story left to cover. However, now that the series is only officially three games, it seems some events will be significantly truncated.
The Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration Broadcast had some other surprises today, such as a Crisis Core remaster and VII Remake on Steam.
