Nintendo has announced three new NES and SNES games are available through the Nintendo Switch Online service as part of a July 21, 2022 update: Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia for NES and Kirby’s Avalanche and Fighter’s History for SNES. In Japan, the NSO lineup has received the same update of games, except Kirby’s Avalanche is replaced by Kirby’s Super Star Stacker.
Kirby’s Avalanche joins several other Kirby games available on Nintendo Switch Online across NES, SNES, and Nintendo 64. It is basically a Puyo Puyo puzzle game but with Kirby. Meanwhile, Fighter’s History is a fighting game from Data East that is famous for triggering a lawsuit from Capcom for being too similar to Street Fighter II. Data East won that case, though it’s hard to argue against the influence of the latter on the former regardless. Lastly, Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia is a sci-fi action game with strategic elements from T&E Soft, and this seems to be the first time it has received an official release in the West.
Nintendo Switch Online has a habit of adding rather bizarre games to its NES and SNES library, and while Kirby’s Avalanche is a logical pick, Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia and Fighter’s History are somewhat quirky choices as usual.
Meanwhile, the higher-priced Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier recently received Pokémon Puzzle League for Nintendo 64 and games like Mega Man: The Wily Wars for Sega Genesis.
