The first Oppenheimer teaser trailer is finally here, and it looks like Christopher Nolan is already trying to blow our minds. This mostly black-and-white trailer offers a glimpse at Cillian Murphy’s role as the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. He will be joined in the film by Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Rami Malek, Emily Blunt, and more. What’s interesting about the Oppenheimer teaser trailer though is that it’s set up as a livestream, with each following version being changed ever so slightly. Specifically, the countdown that appears toward the beginning of the footage actually changes with every new iteration, eventually ticking down to release day.
The clock is already ticking down to the day the world will forever change, leaving us with a trailer that somehow manages to be tense in its own right. You might have caught the Oppenheimer trailer before showings of Jordan Peele’s Nope. If you missed it, you can watch it over and over again below.
Oppenheimer is the latest Christopher Nolan movie since releasing the time-bending Tenet back in 2020. The movie will bring fans of the director back to theaters on July 21, 2023. Stay tuned for more trailers and details as we begin the year-long wait.
