At D23, Marvel Studios revealed the team lineup for its Thunderbolts movie, which will conclude Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5 in 2024. The Thunderbolts is a team typically consisting of villainous characters who are ostensibly doing kinda-sorta good things for assorted reasons. However, the Thunderbolts movie team lineup is not feeling overly villainous or evil — it consists of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss) appears to be running the show.
Yelena, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster first appeared in Black Widow. US Agent and de Fontaine first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Bucky Barnes is a mainstay of the Captain America franchise. Ghost is from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Some of these characters have been villains before, but they’re largely reformed. This kind of feels like an Avengers Lite lineup more than anything, but this team might be more willing to kill than the Avengers would be.
