The game is afoot but not exactly in the second trailer for Netflix’s upcoming sequel Enola Holmes 2, as the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes finds herself embroiled in another mystery all while running into her more famous brother and her erstwhile mother. Yes, the surprisingly good Enola Holmes has returned to crack more cases.
The weird thing about the Enola Holmes movie is that when written out they seem like terrible ideas of a low-budget studio, but the first film turned out to be quite fantastic, especially thanks to a striking performance from Millie Bobbie Brown as the titular character. The first film struck a balance between mystery-solving and character that was, frankly, surprising. Now we’ll see if that was just luck of the draw or if this is an idea worth expanding upon as Enola opens her own detective agency and begins to instantly not get hired by anyone. However, a case finally comes to her when a matchstick girl asks her to find her sister, launching a mystery that clearly gets far bigger than one missing girl.
Judging from this second Enola Holmes 2 trailer it appears that Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes will play a much larger part in this film, as he was a bit more of a background player in the original film. He’s not the only actor returning for the film in what seems to be a big role, either, as Enola learns that she can’t do it alone. David Thewlis, Louis Partridge, Susan Wokoma, Adeel Akhtar, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and Helena Bonham Carter will all join the adventure this time around. Harry Bradbeer is returning to direct the film from a screenplay by Jack Thorne.
Enola Holmes 2 will land on Netflix on November 4.
