Get ready to have your mind confused. The first trailer for Devs has arrived, and it is as weird and thought-provoking as you’d expect from a science fiction series created by Alex Garland, starring Sonoya Mizuno and Nick Offerman, and made by FX. That’s just a combination for wonderful TV right there, and this first trailer confirms it.
Garland is the visionary director behind both Ex Machina and Annihilation, films that use science fiction to take deep dives into the human psyche and what it means to exist. Devs looks much the same, with an eerie and slightly horror-tinged aspect to it. The series follows a software engineer, Lily Chan, who begins investigating the development arm of her employer because she believes they are responsible for her boyfriend’s murder.
In case you’re confused as to what the heck it means to be an FX on Hulu show, it means that this show is exclusively on Hulu but is made by and under the FX brand. Most of FX’s past and present content is coming to Hulu this March, making Hulu the streaming home of the boundary-pushing cable channel. This includes original shows, like Devs, that are only on FX on Hulu and will not be on FX the cable channel. It’s a little confusing but Disney, who now owns both platforms, is basically consolidating their content and using the cache that the FX brand has to bolster Hulu.
Devs premieres on March 5, 2020.
