Next Era of Star Wars Projects Will Reportedly Debut Via Video Game

Star Wars

With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wrapping up the four-decade long story arc begun with A New Hope, Disney is reportedly aiming to make its next Star Wars project look more like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to ziro.hu (via VG24/7), citing an unnamed source “with an insight into Disney’s work,” this transmedia project will officially begin in 2021 via a video game.

Specific details about that game, such as its developer are not forthcoming at the current time, though EA has reportedly already greenlit a new Star Wars project from Jedi: Fallen Order developer Respawn Entertainment.

The broader undertaking will explore a time period some 300-400 years before the Skywalker Saga, as the Jedi set out to explore the galaxy. Among the main enemies will be the ancient evils, which ziro.hu refers to as “Sith gods of some sort.”

Ziro.hu suggests that this transmedia project is Project Luminous, which was unveiled at New York Comic-Con in October last year. However, the only official media referring to Project Luminous (below) cites the involvement of Disney Lucasfilm Press, IDW Publishing, and Del Ray — comic and book publishers rather than film of game studios — which raises questions about the veracity of the report.

The next movie in the Star Wars franchise is currently slated to release in 2022.
