Beautiful Desolation is an isometric adventure game by The Brotherhood. You play as Mark Leslie, whose fiancée was killed in a car crash incited by a massive object called the Penrose appearing in the sky. After spending years investigating the Penrose, Mark enlists the help of his brother Don to fly him up to the structure. Upon boarding it, something launches them into a post-apocalyptic future where the technology brought by the Penrose has dramatically changed the world and its people.
Ultimately, I can’t understate how fascinating and engaging the characters and the world they exist in are. If you have the patience to put up with some clunky game design and busywork, Beautiful Desolation is absolutely worth playing. This game is available now for $19.99 on GOG and Steam.
