Gameplay for A Total War Saga: Troy has been revealed, offering a glimpse into Sega and Creative Assembly’s next take on the strategy series. The six-and-a-half-minute gameplay video was uploaded to the Total War YouTube channel that features a battle between Achilles and Hector.
The A Total War Saga: Troy video takes place from Achilles’ perspective, as the outnumbered commander attempts to take the city of Troy from Hector. Achilles’ forces are met just outside the gate of the city, where the video then showcases the light, medium, and heavy infantry classes. Each class has its own advantages, such as heavy fighters and their different weapon types, or light units and their ability to hide in tall grass.
Environmental changes allow for a more dynamic experience. Mud is another one of the terrain differences in A Total War Saga: Troy and can cause heavy units to become bogged down as they slosh through battle. Switch-ups like these open up room for more tactical play if players are paying attention to the advantages and disadvantages of the battlefield. Some heroes can also engage in unique duels that offer a shot of cinematic victory.
With a couple months still between now and the lead-up to release, there are likely still plenty more new features to be revealed in the future.
After a trademark filing was discovered in August of 2019, the game saw an official reveal in September. Creative Assembly and Sega promised a “world of gods and monsters” back when the latest entry in the strategy game series was unveiled.
A Total War Saga: Troy launches on PC via the Epic Games Store on Aug. 13, 2020, with a Steam release scheduled for Aug. 13, 2021. Those who claim the game within the first 24 hours of the Epic Games Store release will be able to download their copy for free.
