[Update: EA will officially premiere the game on June 15 at 8 a.m. PT, 11 a.m. ET, in the video linked at bottom.] A brand new Star Wars game from Electronic Arts has seemingly just been leaked onto the internet. A user on ResetEra discovered an advertisement for Star Wars: Squadrons on the Xbox Store.
Reportedly, Star Wars: Squadrons is the official title for Star Wars: Project Maverick, which was leaked back in March on the PlayStation Network. According to VentureBeat, the game is an aerial combat game with head-to-head ship battles. While the game is primarily multiplayer-focused, a single-player campaign will also be included.
Squadrons is allegedly one of the two Star Wars games that are currently in development, with this one being developed by EA Motive. The other game is a sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment.
Executives over at EA wanted a quick turnaround on Star Wars projects, which could explain Squadrons‘ multiplayer-centric nature. The leaked advertisement also has a button that says “Pre-Order Now,” which implies that the game is not going to have a free-to-play model like Respawn’s Apex Legends.
Electronic Arts has its own digital event, EA Play Live 2020, premiering on June 18, so an official reveal will most likely take place there. Star Wars: Squadrons will reportedly release this fall for PC and consoles.
