Resident Evil Village will feature some pretty notable changes in how players gather resources and upgrade their character when it launches next month. Game Informer published a video going over some of the ways you’ll be able to make sure Ethan can survive the hostile inhabitants found in Capcom’s latest, including a somewhat surprising addition: hunting. A variety of animals populate the eighth mainline Resident Evil game and yield useful items if you decide to expend a few bullets to take them out. There’s a bit of risk and reward here, as some of the animals will fight back, but you can take the meat you gather to the Duke to cook dishes that provide permanent upgrades.
The light hunting mechanics aren’t all that’s new in Resident Evil Village, though. Players will be able to find and spend Lei, the game’s currency, to buy consumable items and weapon upgrades. Lei will occasionally drop from the corpses of defeated enemies, but you’ll also be able to collect treasures to sell to the Duke as well. Though these are only some of Resident Evil Village’s new gameplay wrinkles, it sounds like Capcom is definitely leaning more into action this time around. You can see hunting and upgrading in action in the gameplay below.
Capcom hasn’t been shy to show off Resident Evil Village as its launch draws nearer. In January, we got our first Resident Evil Showcase, which showed off the first look at gameplay, confirmed last-gen versions of the game, and announced the Maiden demo on PlayStation 5. Since then, we’ve seen what the game looks like running on PlayStation 4 Pro, and Capcom will have even more to show off when the next Resident Evil Showcase premieres tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT.
Resident Evil Village launches on May 7 for PC, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
