Saturday Night Live premiered on NBC in 1975. Through the years they have had quite a few cast members, most of which have disappeared into obscurity. Here we give you eight alumni of the famous series.
Chevy Chase was one of the first cast members of SNL. After leaving the show he has gone on to make some of the most memorable comedies of the 80s and 90s. He also made quite a splash with his role in Community.
Bill Murray was a cast member from 1977-1980. He was brought in to replace Chevy Chase after he left. In the years since Mr. Murray has left SNL he has become one of the best actors of his generation.
Eddie Murphy was a star by the time he left in 1984. In the years that Lorne Michaels wasn’t producing the show he was definitely the stand out performer. Since his time on the show he has made several stand-up specials and a plethora of movies.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus was a cast member from 1982-1985. From there she’s gone on to star in the amazingly successful television show Seinfeld to starring in the Woody Allen movie Deconstructing Harry.
Billy Crystal was only on for one year but from there he went places. He then went on to star in the television show Soap and then a job hosting the Academy Awards for god knows how many times. He’s a successful actor and director that has brought the phrase “to blathe” to life.
Many of you may not remember but Robert Downey Jr. was a regular cast member on SNL long before he donned the iron suit. He was on the show from 1985-1986 and hasn’t looked back since. From his star making turn as Charlie Chaplin to Tony Stark he has acquired all the fans.
Chris Rock was an actor before he went to be a regular on the show. Since he’s left he’s gone on to star in the now classic Pootie Tang to the much maligned Grown Ups 2.
Will Forte was on the show from 2002-2010. Since his departure he’s been a regular on the NBC show 30 Rock and starred in the hilarious movie Macgruber. Quite a funny man that has yet to get started.
