Chris Evans wasn’t the only actor to wield the star spangled shield.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier launched this weekend to rave reviews. But did you know there have been other attempts to portray the First Avenger? Let’s take a trip back to the late 1970’s to check out one of Marvel’s first attempts to bring Captain America to screens!
Captain America starred Reb Brown, whom you may recognize from such classics like Yor, the Hunter from the Future and Space Mutiny.
Reb Brown portrayed a more laid-back Steve Rogers, an ex-marine who just wanted to take life easy before being drawn into an evil conspiracy and receiving an experimental body enhancement chemical.
But, as with all super hero stories, almost an hour and 15 minutes into the film, Steve Rogers decides to suit up as Captain America to fight evil doers with a nifty transparent shield.
Along with his trademark plastic vibranium shield, Captain America also gets an inspiring blue helmet and a badass spandex suit.
Plus, he gets to ride around on this wicked cool motorcycle. Seriously, look at the color scheme on that bad boy!
True to his name, 1970’s Captain America fights off his enemies by using trickery and oil spills.
Yes, Reb Brown as a laid-back, easy going Captain America who doesn’t really get into many head-on fights against those who threaten peace and justice was definitely an inspiration to us all.
