The Witcher 3 Shows Off Open World Monster Hunting – Update

Players will be able to use their “heightened senses” to follow blood trails and track monsters in The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt RED unveiled a new gameplay trailer today as a part of Microsoft’s E3 2014 press briefing. The trailer, which took place “about 10 hours into the game and in “vast wilderness area known as No Man’s Land” showcased several game mechanics and how they’ll relate to the game’s turn toward the open world style.

For instance, the demonstration showcased the player’s ability to switch on “heightened senses” that allow you to see things not normally noticeable. This came in handy when the player in the demo came across a Griffin that promptly fled after being wounded by a crossbow bolt. Using the enhanced senses, they were able to follow its blood trail which eventually led them to a house being assailed my bandits. After promptly dispatching them and engaging in a brief dialogue sequence the demo continued until the Griffin was tracked down, engaged and killed.

All in all, the new trailer did a really nice job of showing off just how CD Projekt RED is adapting the monster hunting motif of The Witcher series to The Wild Hunt. Here’s hoping we get to see more of that as E3 progresses.

Update: A story trailer was also released that focuses on the story of The Witcher III.
