The roster of Mortal Kombat X has expanded with a second round of DLC characters — including the three-in-one half-machine Triborg. This unique character is actually three palette swap cyborgs combined. That isn’t his only special attribute. Triborg features a fourth hidden variant style that unlocks the always cool Cyber Sub-Zero. Learn how to unlock this ice cold customer with our quick guide.
Triborg is one of the four new characters that comes with Mortal Kombat XL. The new expansion isn’t just about new characters, it also adds new stage fatalities, along with a ton of costumes and interactions between characters. Every fighter features new intro reactions, which we’re very much a fan of. Like before, combat style variations are important to changing how each character fights, and Triborg does indeed feature a fourth hidden variant.

If you’re new to the franchise, let’s go into some detail on what makes Triborg, and Cyber Sub Zero, so awesome.
What Makes Triborg So Special?
Triborg isn’t just one character. He’s four! Instead of including every Lin Kuei ninja from the previous games, Netherrealms Studios instead gives us Triborg.
Depending on which variation you choose, he becomes an entirely different character. Cyrax, Sektor, and Smoke are all represented in Triborg, along with the fourth secret inclusion for Cyber Sub-Zero.
The Cyborg Initiative Lin Kuei are palette swapped ninjas first introduced in Mortal Kombat 3. They feature a few distinct moves, but use a similar costume.
In Mortal Kombat (2011), the story veered off into an alternate timeline where Sub-Zero also became a Cyborg like his Lin Kuei brothers. In a surprise twist, Cyber Sub-Zero was a playable character, giving a familiar character a fan-pleasing twist.
While that alternate timeline did not play-out, Cyber Sub-Zero was such a cool addition it looks like Netherrealm had to include him all over again for Mortal Kombat XL.
