Finally free of the cornfields, you’ll reach a short section of safety. Head down the hill path and into the canyon below. On the left, look for bloody handprints and jump up onto the ledge, then shimmy across the narrow path to reach the cavern interior. Crawl through and you’ll reach a very strange altar deep in the caves.

  • This is the eponymous “Heretic Caves” — you’ll find bloody corpses strewn about the chamber, and human sacrifice underneath the massive statue. Don’t miss the note in this area. It won’t explain much, but it helps provide context to the heretic ritual.

Grab the battery near the heretic sacrificial altar, next to the most intact corpse, and then hop across the gap. Climb up and exit through the cavern to get a good view of the town in the far distance. Take the mountain path down to the river and enter the open doorway to the cellar passage.
