Nintendo DS sells 21 million devices, figuring a non-stop rate of twenty-three units per minute. Compares to 1 million iPods in first nineteen months.
A recent Nintendo press release claims the company “delivers on its promise to bring video gaming to the masses.” The DS sales were reached in under two year, with the device launching on Nov. 21, 2004.
“We’re thrilled to be announcing this milestone today,” comments George Harrison. [Harrison is the Senior Vice President of Nintendo of America’s marketing and corporate communications, not a late member of the Beatles.]
“We attribute this success to Nintendo’s overall strategy of offering something for everyone – from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day.”
No word on the DS version of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
