Microsoft Offers Refunds for Repairs Of First-Run Xbox 360s

In a reversal of previous claims that issues with the Xbox 360 at launch were limited to a few users, Microsoft is now offering refunds on repair fees for Xbox 360 systems manufactured prior to January 1st, 2006.

Microsoft, which had admitted late last year that they had received a “few reports” of defective consoles, but argued that it was to be expected with a device as complex as the 360, has now reversed their original claim and admit that the reports of defective systems have come in at “a higher rate than we are satisfied with.”

Microsoft plans to offer refunds to customers who have paid for repair costs on machines manufactured in 2005. According to the Gamesindustry.biz article, “We’ve made the decision to comp repairs for consoles manufactured before January 1, 2006, and provide refunds to the small group of customers who have already paid for repairs.”
