WWE Starts Legal Battle with THQ

SmackDown! publisher THQ is being sued by WWE for wrongful use of license.

THQ, the publisher behind the wrestling series SmackDown!, has become entangled with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), the company behind modern professional wrestling, in a legal battle over the “improper sales” of the SmackDown! series in Asia. In an October 12th SEC filing, both THQ and fellow WWE licensee JAKKS Pacific both revealed that they have been sued in the Conneticut state court. The lawsuit is claiming the right to terminate the licenses at any time and monetary damages.

Defending duo THQ and JAKKS Pacific both claim, “the lawsuit is without merit and we intend to defend ourselves vigorously.” Previously, the WWE filed a case covering complaints against THQ, JAKKS Pacific, and its licensor consultants Stanley Shenker & Associates and Bell Licensing for bribery and racketeering. THQ does not believe any of these lawsuits will effect their future sales of the WWE SmackDown! series.
