Activision Acquires DemonWare

Activision announced today that it has made an agreement with Demonware, the leading network middleware technology provider in Dublin, Ireland. Activision is looking to further strengthen its online game development capabilities.

Activision has worked with DemonWare’s products since 2005, most recently in Call of Duty 3. DemonWare has created 2 main technologies: a program called Matchmaking+ that provides community services for multiplayer games on PC and next-gen consoles, and a network engine called State Engine which ensures secure and reliable console to console communications.

Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing, states that he expects online gaming to grow significantly as technology improves, and the acquisition of DemonWare will allow Activision to eliminate many risks involved with online Game Development.

This transaction is expected to be completed no later than the first quarter of 2008.
