According to an interview with Eidos France Managing Director Patrick Melchior, the renowned Deus Ex franchise may be making a comeback.
Speaking on Canadian specialty music channel Musique Plus, Melchior said that Eidos intends to open a new studio in Montreal in September. The company is currently looking for premises and expect to have 30-40 people working there by the end of the year. Its first goal, he said, will be to revive the Deus Ex franchise.
While Eidos has not yet officially confirmed Melchior’s statement, a revival of the storied Deus Ex series would garner significant attention among gamers. While the second release in the series, Deus Ex: Invisible War, received a tepid response from fans, the original game is widely considered a masterpiece. Released in 2000, Deus Ex was developed at Ion Storm by a team led by Warren Spector, and is still cited as one of the finest models of crossover gameplay ever produced, seamlessly blending an engrossing cyberpunk RPG with intense FPS action.
