The Pan-European Game Information age rating system is used by 94 percent of consumers, according to the latest annual report by its parent body.
PEGI was created in 2003 by the Interactive Software Federation of Europe, based in Brussels, Belgium.
In a Nielsen survey conducted across ten countries, 94 percent of respondents said they relied on PEGI icons to inform their choices. That number was up from 72 percent three years ago.
The survey was included in the latest agency report, which official Patrice Chazerand said provided a wealth of details on the PEGI system.
“The chief purpose of the report is to show the PEGI system to be as transparent as possible so as to have this self-regulation fully appreciated by European policy makers and put to the best use by the general public,” he said.
