The Guildhall at SMU has taken up the cause of advancing the PC as a viable entertainment platform by joining the PC Gaming Alliance.
First announced in February, the PC Gaming Alliance is made up of hardware and software vendors, including heavyweights like Microsoft, Intel and AMD, to bolster the sagging fortunes of the PC gaming industry. The coordinated effort seeks to “accelerate innovation, improve the gaming experience and serve as a collective source of market information and expertise on PC gaming.”
“Having SMU join the PCGA is a big win for the organization,” said Dell’s Rick Carini, the PC Gaming Alliance chairman. “The PCGA’s main goal is to improve the PC Gaming customer experience. SMU, as the first university to join the PCGA, will bring a unique perspective that will help balance the PCGA. This will only help in getting to the ultimate PC Gaming experience.”
“We hope that SMU and other universities will be able to serve as the independent testing and innovation centers for PCGA and its members,” added Guildhall Executive Director Dr. Peter Raad. “In order to fulfill our mission of providing the future professionals and leaders of the videogame industry, we need to be engaged in all aspects of the value chain. Universities can no longer sit on the sidelines. We need to do our part by joining in and becoming breeding grounds for future game play innovation and innovators.”
Established in 2003, The Guildhall at SMU offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in various aspects of computer game development, and boasts a 95 percent graduate placement rate.
