Fallout 3 DLC, Game Editor Announced

Great news for Fallout 3 fans: Bethesda has announced the forthcoming release of three downloadable content packs and the G.E.C.K. game editor.

The first DLC pack will be available beginning in January 2009 when Operation: Anchorage is released to the public, an “action-packed” add-on that puts players in a military simulation of the liberation of Anchorage, a turning point in the war with Communist China. Following that in February will be The Pitt, offering the chance to travel to an industrial raider town located in the remains of Pittsburgh, and then in March will come Broken Steel, a continuation of the main storyline which will allow players to join the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave once and for all.

The release of the G.E.C.K. game editor, meanwhile, will let players create and modify Fallout 3 content ranging from landscapes, towns and specific locations to all-new dialog, characters, weapons, creatures and more. “We’ve always seen the original world of Fallout 3 as a foundation for even more content. Some created by us, and a lot more created by users,” said Fallout 3 Game Director Todd Howard. “It’s fun to create your own character, but it can be equally fun to create your own adventures. We can’t wait to see what the community does with the G.E.C.K.

The first Fallout 3 DLC packs are being released for the XBox 360 and PC versions of the game, while the G.E.C.K. content editor, available beginning in December, will be exclusive to the PC.
