Hollywood heroes Dennis Hopper and Billy Bob Thornton will be lending their distinctive voices to Deadly Creatures, an upcoming new Wii action game from THQ.
Deadly Creatures is a third-person action game built around a scorpion and a tarantula, caught up in a fight for survival against creatures ranging from crickets and hornets to Gila monsters, rattlesnakes and even humans. Few details have been revealed, but the game will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for “intuitive motion controls and a deep combo-based combat system.” Deadly Creatures will feature both melee and stealth combat options, 360 degrees of movement in a range of environments and “a gripping story of human betrayal and greed, as witnessed through the eyes of two deadly creatures.”
“What surprised me about Deadly Creatures is how it looks… like watching a movie,” Thornton said. “The scorpion and tarantula are like two actors meeting up for a gun fight.”
“Gamers are really going to love Deadly Creatures,” added Hopper.
Hopper and Thornton are both highly-respected iconoclasts in the Hollywood movie industry. Thornton established his reputation with his work in Matlock, Knots Landing and of course the breakthrough Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, while Hopper’s legendary career, spanning five decades, is punctuated by numerous high points, most notably his portrayal of King Koopa in the 1993 smash hit Super Mario Bros.
Whether or not the addition of high-priced Hollywood voice talent will help the game, and to be honest I don’t think it ever really does, Deadly Creatures looks incredibly sweet. I love the concept, and while it’s a lot to live up to, if Rainbow Studios can pull it off the game should go a long way toward silencing critics of the Wii who claim the system is a one-dimensional kids’ toy. Deadly Creatures is slated to launch in February 2009. To learn more, go to DeadlyCreaturesGame.com.
