Battlestar’s McCreary Takes On Dark Void Score

Capcom has announced that Bear McCreary, the man behind the music of Battlestar Galactica, has been signed to create the soundtrack for the upcoming action game Dark Void.

McCreary worked as a composer on several independent films before gaining mainstream attention on the recently-wrapped television series Battlestar Galactica. He’s also composed music for the shows Eureka and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, but Dark Void will be his first venture into videogames.

“When I got the call from Capcom to work on the music for Dark Void, I jumped at the chance to do it, considering my love for Capcom games,” McCreary said. “I have been looking for the opportunity to compose a game score for a long time, but I’ve been waiting for the right one. Dark Void’s epic story and unique gameplay drew me in immediately and I have had a lot of fun working on the project.”

Dark Void is a futuristic third-person action game in which players take on the role of a pilot who crashes in the Bermuda Triangle and finds himself trapped in the Void, a parallel universe in which a group called the Survivors struggles desperately against an alien race threatening Earth. Combat takes place both on the ground and in the air and features a unique “grip system” which lets players scale walls, jump from surface to surface and even hijack UFOs in mid-air.

Not familiar with McCreary’s work? Don’t feel too bad; despite the success of Battlestar Galactica, his contribution remains largely unknown, even to his co-workers. If you’d like to learn more about his efforts on the show, check out this highly-recommend video on YouTube.
