LEGO Harry Potter Is Official

The LEGO videogame enterprise will be making even stupider amounts of money next year when Warner Bros and TT Games release LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, a LEGO-ized trip through Mr. Potter’s first four years at Hogwarts.

You can scratch yet another name off the list of major entertainment franchises that have yet to be turned into a LEGO game: Harry Potter. Scheduled for release next year, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 tells the stories of J.K. Rowling’s first four Potter books in plastic bricks and blocks. It will very likely sell many, many, many copies.

Players will control Harry and his best friends Ron and Hermione as they “attend lessons, cast spells, mix potions, fly on broomsticks and complete tasks to earn house points.” Notable locales from the Harry Potter world will be present in LEGO form, including Hogwarts (obviously), Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade, where you’ll hopefully be able to drink LEGO butterbeer from a LEGO mug. Other “favorite characters” will also be playable. Maybe this means I’ll get a chance to control a LEGO Neville Longbottom, or, better yet, LEGO Argus Filch.

“Harry Potter is one of the world’s most popular and inspirational heroes, and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 will appeal to a generation of gamers who grew up immersed in the Harry Potter books and films, and also loved playing with LEGO toys,” Samantha Ryan of Warner Bros. Interactive said. “The game is geared for players to experience a good mix of puzzle solving gameplay with exploration and battle in some of the most beloved Harry Potter environments, plus a few other surprises.”

Quite a lot happens over the course of Sorceror’s Stone (or Philosopher’s Stone if you’re on the UK side of things) and Goblet of Fire, so I wonder how much of Harry’s first four years we’ll really get to experience.
